NEIL
ROYALITY PAYMENTS

When an artist or a type of creator has created a piece of work that is published, everytime that work is shown or played, in a format, for example a piece of music being played on TV, or the radio, a payment must be sent to them by the company that chooses to play/use it as it isn't their work they are playing. If an advert chooses to use that piece of music in an advert, they have to get permission from the creator and again, every time the advert is played money again is sent to the creator.
Sometimes DVDs of TV shows have to be edited as they don’t have enough money or the permission to pay for certain material.
This will effect the writer as when creating a piece of work, they will get money back in the long term, without having to put any effort in as it has already been created. It will also effect the writer as for example if the writer is a song writer, and a track they make becomes a classic piece, people will want to use it more for things like films, adverts etc, and again they will earn more back from what they created.
